Available Positions:
Renewable Energy Construction Manager
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Responsible to lead the construction segment of our business, from people, processes and equipment
- Contributing to the leadership of Second Source Power - developing and maintaining strong working relationship with the Board, other Operating Managers, Employees, Customers, Vendors and other key stakeholders
- Developing and managing processes into logical steps for defining work, scheduling and coordinating all renewable energy system designs and construction processes, with the goal of projects being completed with quality, on time and within budget
- Hiring the Construction Team and providing leadership as a coach and mentor to the Construction Team
- Planning, organizing, and directing the activities of the Construction Team – overseeing the performance of the team with coaching and feedback
- Evaluating and organizing the training requirements of the Construction Team to keep current and improve effectiveness
- Supporting front end planning – working with Sales on scope of work and customer expectations. Obtaining all necessary permits and licenses
- Selecting key trade contractors to ensure projects are completed as specified
- Implementing the Construction Execution Plan - site preparation, (may involve land clearing and earth moving); excavation and laying of foundations for turbines, preparing structures for solar application, preparing sites for grey water installations, etc. Determine best way to get materials to the building site and the most cost-effective plan and schedule for completing the project.
- Providing supervision of multiple projects with some in remote locations – ensuring productivity and SAFETY
The ideal candidate should have the following:
- Second Source Power Construction Manager ideally would have 10 years experience in the construction industry with 3-5 years minimum in a leadership/supervisory role managing employee and subcontractors. Experience with renewable energy would be ideal but not required
- Strong leadership skills – ability to organize, utilize and motivate team members quickly to respond to changes in the construction schedule
- Knowledge of budgets, progress and performance, change management and estimating
- Flexible and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Be decisive and work well under pressure, particularly when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays. The ability to coordinate several major activities at once, while analyzing and resolving specific problems, is essential, as is an understanding of engineering, architectural, and other construction drawings
- Familiarity with computers and software programs for job costing, online collaboration, scheduling, and estimating also is important
- Good oral and written communication skills are important
- Experience managing projects from remote locations
- Comfortable working in heights and adverse weather with safety always top of mind. Strong belief in the safety of all personal is a must
Renewable Energy Specialist (Solar):
- Participate in the installation of domestic solar hot water systems with a team. The role will centre around installing domestic solar hot water and heating systems
- Participate in the installation of domestic and commercial/large scale solar hot water and heating systems with a team. The role will centre around system design and plumbing installation
- Undertake aspects of the installation of solar PV electric systems
- Assist with stock procurement and waste disposal
- Assist with the maintenance of existing solar systems (thermal and PV)
- Provide assistance with other renewable energy projects (such as wind) depending on the shifting demands of the business
The successful candidate will ideally have skills and experience in the following areas:
- Practical experience of general plumbing, heating engineering and building works (at least three years)
- Plumbing certificate preferred
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team
- Problem solving skills and manage your own time effectively
- Knowledge of solar thermal systems desirable but not essential
- Strong project management skills
- Comfortable working in various weather conditions and in heights
- Drivers license and safety certifications, especially regarding working at heights (Fall Arrest)
Renewable Energy Specialist (Wind):
- Participate in the installation of residential and commercial wind turbine systems with a team. The role will centre on customers’ wind system design, with concrete and electrical installation requirements.
- The role requires the operations of heavy equipment such as forklifts, crane to lift turbines, excavation equipment for installing concrete base constructions, hauling of heavy equipment, etc.
- Undertake aspects of the installation of wind systems; ensuring scheduling of equipment, permits are in place, and other required resources are available
- Assist with stock procurement for installation and waste disposal
- Assist with the maintenance of existing wind turbines and other renewable energy systems
- Provide assistance with other renewable energy projects (such as solar) depending on the shifting demands of the business
The successful candidate will ideally have skills and experience in the following areas:
- Practical experience in the construction industry with experience operating heavy equipment
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team
- Problem solving skills and manage your own time effectively
- Knowledge of renewable energy systems desirable but not essential
- Strong project management skills
- Comfortable working in various weather conditions and height
- Drivers license and safety certifications, especially regarding working at heights (Fall Arrest)
Renewable Energy Consultant (Sales):
- Responsible for direct sales in the renewable energy market by developing and enhancing sales strategies and programs which encompasses expanding existing business partnerships, developing new relationships and entering new markets
- Develop relationships with resellers, end-users, local and government agencies, advocacy groups, and other solar and energy industry affiliates
- Meet or exceed monthly, quarterly and annual sales quotas and objectives; prepare monthly and quarterly forecast reports for management review
- Ability to study and self educate on current and emerging renewable technologies as well market trends, competition, new product development and identify market opportunities
- Ability to educate and present key information throughout the organization
- Ability to work closely with customer design teams and operations for sales execution
- Facilitate information and training events. Travel to client meetings, trade shows, and marketing activities
The successful candidate will ideally have skills and experience in the following areas:
- Must have complete sales cycle experience including identifying/qualifying prospects, understanding stakeholder needs, translating needs into actionable
- customer solutions, assessing decision maker readiness, developing closing strategy, and accurate customer forecast vs. budget
- Proven track record in sales (preferably technical product or renewable energy sales, but not necessary)
- Experience structuring and negotiating deals. Ability to work independently in a high-growth environment that requires creativity and capacity to improvise
- Strong communication and relationship management skills with an ability to manage time effectively
- Experience operating within a CRM (SSP currently uses ClearService)
- Knowledge of renewable energy systems desirable but not essential
- Drivers license required
Renewable Energy Consultant (Estimator):
- Responsible for sizing and estimating renewable energy projects with a focus on material and other resources requirements to complete full project installations with efficiency, cost effectiveness and quality
- Work with Sales and Operations as a team to cost out in specific details the company costs, target margins and client project costs for domestic and commercial (including large scale) projects
- Part of the role is responsible for direct sales in the showroom and/or customer sites
- Develop relationships with resellers, end-users, local and government agencies, advocacy groups, and other solar and energy industry affiliates
- Ability to study market trends, competition, and new product development
- Ability to work closely with customer design teams and operations for sales execution
- Participate in client meetings, trade shows and marketing activities

Renewable Energy Project Coordinator – term position up to 17 weeks:
- Responsible for assigned projects identified in the Sales and Marketing Plan
- Work with Sales and Management team to activate the newly implemented CRM (customer relationship management) system
- Video and document operating procedures such as solar and wind turbine installations
- Assist in the coordination of events and tradeshows
The successful candidate will ideally have skills and experience in the following areas:
- Student or recent graduate
- Solid project management skills with attention to details
- Good communication skills with an ability to manage time effectively
- Fluent computer skills with experience in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Project management or marketing experience preferred but not a requirement
