Why solar energy?
As fuel costs continue to rise, 'traditional' home energy will become increasingly expensive. Can we afford to remain dependent on utility companies and their control over energy prices? More than ever, a self-sufficient power source is the smartest answer. Natural solar power eliminates reliance on 'the grid' by enabling property owners to literally create their own energy. In addition, solar power is incredibly responsible to the environment, resulting in no by-products and thereby no harmful emissions.

How does it work?
Here's a very basic description: similar to a solar-powered calculator (but on a much larger scale) a solar power system uses photovoltaic (PV) cells to capture light. These cells are comprised of materials called semiconductors (i.e. silicon) which transfer energy by freeing electrons from the absorbed light. These electrons then form a current, which now serves the same purpose as 'traditional' electricity.

Why Second Source?
As one of Canada's leading clean energy distributors, we're a proven and reliable choice for getting customers off 'the grid'. Our partnerships with key manufacturers around the world gives us access to the most innovative and efficient products available. This, combined with our technical knowledge and hands-on experience, allows us to perform expert installation and maintenance. As well, we provide 24-hour telephone service and in-house financing – the only 'clean' company to do so!

Which product is best?
While all photovoltaic technology is highly efficient, certain manufacturers have virtually perfected the capture and transfer of solar energy. One example is Thermomax, sold exclusively in Atlantic Canada by Second Source Power. Through unique collection panels, a Thermomax solar system can absorb solar radiation even in cloudy conditions – meaning it can operate without direct sunlight. In addition, Thermomax maintains the same performance level in summer or winter, which makes it one of the most reliable and durable choices available.

What does it cost?
Prices vary greatly depending on the size and scope of a Thermomax system. (Initially, Second Source Power will perform an inspection to determine exact details and system requirements. A specified estimate can then be prepared for you.) Overall, the return on investment on a Thermomax system is generally over 5% and it can be as high as 14%. Not only will the system pay for itself, but you'll have a renewable and sustainable source of energy without any reliance on traditional utility companies.
